Can somebody answer this question regarding church raffles?

Some churches sell $100 raffle tickets and brag that only 500 tickets will be sold. This brings the church $50,000 and top prize may be $10,000 with five more consolation prizes of $1000 apiece. That's a $35,000 profit for the church! SO...what if I Citizen X (otherwise know as the Emperor) decided to do the same thing only in the end I pocket that $35,000 profit and use it in any manner that I please? Is this legal? Would the Feds come after me? What crime would I possibly be charged with, ESPECIALLY if I paid taxes on it?
